We started this assignment by looking at characters in movies and shows and gathering images of them for reference/ideas. Mine can be found here: https://artslondon.padlet.org/whobbs0120191/yr64z0rcy4e1lfb8.
After that we got to designing 20 concept characters. I used a character profile that I had filled out to base the designs on to make it easier to visualise the character design I wanted, but I threw that out pretty quickly. This didn’t go particularly well as it meant I had a set design in mind when filling the profile out, leading to multiple concepts being very similar, i.e. concepts 1-8.

I started experimenting with other artististic styles for concepts 7 and 8, but I was still designing from that same profile. Concept 7 was using the style from The Powerpuff Girls (TV Series 1998-2005) and concept 8 was using the style from the Fairly OddParents (TV Series 2001-2017).
Concept 9 onwards I just started drawing random lines and seeing what shapes were produced and what characters came about. I preferred this to sticking to a profile as I felt it gave me more creative freedom and I could draw whatever I felt like drawing without the constraints of predetermined variables. As such, you can see there is a much larger variety of character designs from concept 9 onwards.
We were then tasked with picking our favourite 3 and developing those designs. Unfortunately, I lost the developed designs along with the 3D character model because of hard drive issues again. I thought I had backed them up in multiple places but apparently not. I had picked designs 16, 18, and 19 as my favourites.
After developing our designs we then played with colour theory on them. I have some colour concepts of design 16 below. They’re not finalised designs as they were for seeing the theory in practice and testing out combinations. I don’t really like the purple and blue combination but it is there to show what doesn’t work.

We then picked our favourite design of the 3, mine being concept 16, the squid, as shown above. Now we model in Maya.
